Deputy Commander, Camp Mujuk
John A. Terrell

Mr. John Terrell is the Deputy Commander of Camp Mujuk, Marine Corps Installation Command, Pacific. He began his civilian career immediately after retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps in the summer of 2008. His first position was as a team leader training Commando Forces in Rish Kvor, Afghanistan with a focus on light infantry tactics and counterinsurgency operations. This was followed by the opportunity to establish the Saudi Arabian War College, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as its first Director and Program Manager. He then took a position as Operations Manager at Spectrum, a startup training company specializing in Special Operations Training in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. After winning several contracts with the U.A.E. military, Mr. Terrell finished up his time in the Middle East as a senior advisor to the Commander of the U.A.E. Land Forces. Simultaneous with his time in the Middle East, Mr. Terrell established a real estate rental business, purchasing and renovating distressed properties in Baltimore, Maryland then transitioning the properties as rental housing. In June of 2019, Mr. Terrell accepted his current position at Camp Mujuk, Republic of Korea.

 

Mr. Terrell was a career Marine Officer, retiring after 30 years with the rank of Colonel, qualified in both Armor and Infantry specialties.

 

Col Terrell’s command billets included: Platoon and Company Commander in 1st Tracked Vehicle Battalion, 3rd Marine Division; Platoon and Company Command at Marine Barracks, Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, Washington; Commanding Officer of the Marine Detachment, USS John F. Kennedy; C Company and the Anti-Tank Company, 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division; Inspector-Instructor, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division; and Commanding Officer of the School of Infantry (West) at Camp Pendleton, California.

 

Staff assignments for Col Terrell included: Assistant Operations Officer, 1st Tank Battalion; Protocol Officer/Junior Aide, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force; Staff Officer, Plans, Policies and Operations Department, Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps; Chief, Joint Task Force Operations Branch, Operations Directorate, U.S. Pacific Command; Deputy Team Chief for the Military Liaison Team (MLT) in Lithuania for the Joint Contact Team Program (JCTP) of the United States European Command; and Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation and Logistics (G-4) at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.

 

His military education includes the Marine Corps’ Amphibious Warfare School, 1985; the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College, 1995; and the Army War College (Advanced Strategic Art Program), 2000.  He is also a graduate of the Airborne School, 1975; and the Armed Forces Staff College, 1995.

 

Mr. Terrell holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Oregon State University, a Master of Arts Degree in Business, from Webster University, St Louis, Missouri, as well as a Master of Arts Degree in National Security Strategic Studies, from the U.S. Army War College.

 

Colonel Terrell’s personal decorations include: The Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V”, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 Gold Stars), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
