Lieutenant Colonel Horace J Bly

LtCol Horace JC Bly joined the US Army upon graduation from high school in 1991, serving on active duty as a Combat Engineer in Korea and Missouri. In 1994 he transferred to the US Army Reserves and remained there while attending college.

LtCol Horace JC Bly was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in January 2000.

In December 2000, after completing The Basic School and Logistics Officers Course, he reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, where he served as the Motor Transport Officer, Support Company Commander, and the assistant Battalion Operations Officer. During this tour LtCol Bly deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

 In July 2004, he was assigned to Marine Corps Security Forces Company, Bangor, Washington where he served as a Platoon Commander and the Company Guard Officer.

In July 2007, LtCol Bly reported to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion, 3d Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Battalion Logistics Officer. During this tour he deployed to Iraq a second time in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In August 2009 LtCol Bly was selected for promotion and assigned to the III Marine Expeditionary Force, Civil Affairs Detachment where he served as a Civil Affairs Team leader. During this assignment LtCol Bly worked extensively throughout the Pacific; planning, executing, and supporting numerous theater engagement events and real world humanitarian/disaster relief operations throughout the region. While attached to the 31st MEU as the Civil Affairs Detachment Officer in Charge, he deployed to Japan in support of Operation Tomadachi.

In February 2011 LtCol Bly was selected to attend Marine Corps Command and Staff College at Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia.

Upon graduation in June 2012 LtCol Bly reported to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and assumed command of Combat Logistics Company – 16, Combat Logistics Regiment - 15.

In July 2014 LtCol Bly was selected to complete a joint tour as a Southeast Asia Regional Area Officer with Special Operations Command, Pacific (SOCPAC). While assigned to SOCPAC LtCol Bly served as the Desk Officer for Nepal, India, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam and as the PACOM Augmentation Team (PAT) Leader at the US Embassy Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia.

In Dec 2016 LtCol Bly was promoted to his current rank and reassigned to Marine Forces, Pacific (MARFORPAC) as a Theater Security Cooperation Exercise Planner.

LtCol Bly holds a Bachelor of Science from San Jose State University and a Masters of Military Studies from Marine Corps University.

LtCol Bly’s decorations include the Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars.
