Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) 2nd Lt. Yuta Sakamoto, an explosive ordnance disposal technician with 101st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, tamps the unexploded ordnance (UXO) shot to mitigate hazardous fragmentation on Ie Shima Training Facility (ISTF), Okinawa, Japan, April 6, 2021. Over the past five years, ordnance has been collected on Iejima and stored away. At the request of the Ie Village office mayor, the JGSDF and Marine Corps Installations Pacific EOD technicians conducted combined UXO disposal operations to destroy the collected ordnance.
