OKINAWA, Japan -- Since 1892, our great nation has recognized the contributions of its dedicated work force on the first Monday in September. It is the work ethic of all U.S. citizens that provides us with the opportunity to enjoy the quality of life we enjoy as Americans.
This Labor Day, take great pride in your accomplishments, as well as those of the American work force, and let us all remain steadfast in our devotion and commitment to our chosen profession.
This year, the liberty period for military personnel with III Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Bases Japan, including those stationed on Hawaii, commences at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 2 and ends at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 7. The observed holiday period for all U.S. and Japanese civilian employees is Sept. 5. A liberal leave policy will be in effect for Sept. 6.
Supervisors of U.S. civilian appropriated-fund employees may permit liberal leave procedures for their employees if mission and workload permit.
During this brief period of rest, it is imperative we keep those who are currently deployed to combat zones, and other locations around the world, in our thoughts and prayers. Take responsibility for yourselves and one another this weekend, and conduct yourselves with honor, courage and commitment.
Enjoy your time off and remember, you are ambassadors for our country and our Corps.
