Ospreys conducted day and night low-altitude training Jan. 23-24 in the Republic of the Philippines, marking the Marine Corps’ first Osprey training in the Republic of the Philippines and the first low-altitude training the pilots and crew have conducted since the aircraft’s Oct. 2012 arrival to Okinawa. Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 prepared the landing strip to allow aircraft with Marine Attack Squadron 513 to conduct field carrier landing practice while MWSS-172 refueled the harriers. VMA-513 currently has aircraft attached to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262, which is the aviation combat element of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
