Marines with Combat Engineer Company detonate an oval charge and prepare to enter a building during urban mobility breaching training Dec. 6 at the Central Training Area near Camp Schwab. During the training, the Marines learned to make different charges to breach doors, windows and walls. The Marines also practiced security tactics, movement techniques, protective measures when working with explosives, and what to do in the event of a failed breach. Marines conduct an amphibious landing at Camp Schwab in the authorized landing area Nov. 15 as part of Exercise Keen Sword 2013. "The primary goal of the assault amphibious vehicles during this operation was to provide a lift capability to the infantry and to conduct an amphibious assault," said Master Sgt. Frank Edling, the operations chief with AAV Company, Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Lt. Col. Jason Brown presents Oshino Village Mayor Yasunori Amano with an ink pen from the National Museum of the Marine Corps as a token of appreciation during a meeting at Amano's office Nov. 9. The meeting gave Brown the opportunity to inform the local mayor about training details and his intent for Artillery Relocation Training Program 12-3. Brown is the commanding officer of 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Oshino Village is located in close proximity to the North Fuji Maneuver Area, where ARTP 12-3 is being conducted. - Lt. Col. Cpl. Geo Kakkar watches service members leap into the ocean during surf qualification off the coast of Oura Wan Beach at Camp Schwab Oct. 30. The qualification is required to guarantee the Marines are competent swimmers in the event they have to abandon their assault amphibious vehicle and get back to land. Participants in the qualification are with Headquarters and Service Company, Combat Engineer Company and Assault Amphibious Vehicle Company, all part of Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.  Marines with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, which is currently assigned to 4th Marines, also participated. Kakkar is an assault amphibious vehicle crewman with AAV Company. - Cpl.
